On chapter 10 section 2 it talks about mass production and the assembley line and how it allowed new industries, such as automobile and airplane manufacturing, to grow. In 1925 a survey showed that 21 out of 26 families who owned cars also didnt have bathtubs with running water in their house. While americans wages increased their hours of working decreased. In 1926 Henry Ford reduced his workweeks from 6 days down to only 5 days. The reason why all these events took place was because of mass production which is the large-scale manufacturing done with machinery, it also increased supply and decreased the costs. Henry Ford started the assembly line which made it faster to make a car, the workers were building cars every 93 minutes, Before the assembly line was developed the task took 12 hours to complete.

Henry Fords first assembly line creation was the Model-T which was also called the "Tin Lizzie" or the "Flivver". The Model-T's first year up for sale went for $850. Since mass production took place only 6 years later the price of the Model-T dropped down to a low price of $490. The lowest price the Model-T sold for was in 1924 when the price was only $295. Ford had his own philosophy: lower the cost per car and thereby increase the volume of sales.
